USA – Mettler-Toledo Product Inspection has launched the X6 Series, the latest evolution in x-ray inspection systems tailored for medium to large packaged products and multi-lane applications.

Following the success of the X2 Series, the X6 lineup—comprising the X16 and X36.2 systems—brings a new level of precision in contamination detection, robust product safety features, and enhanced productivity through intelligent design improvements.

Building on the advanced detection capabilities of its predecessor, the X6 Series specifically addresses the needs of food and beverage manufacturers handling larger products or multiple packages per production line.

Equipped with multi-lane inspection capabilities, the X6 models offer flexibility for brands that require efficient and adaptable solutions across diverse product sizes and configurations. Each model inspects products up to 500-600mm in length, making the X6 Series particularly well-suited for larger packages without compromising accuracy or speed.

The X16 x-ray inspection system

The X16 x-ray system is an entry-level option within the X6 lineup but offers comprehensive contamination detection for medium to large-sized products.

Its HiGain detector technology effectively identifies contaminants such as metal, glass, stone, bone, and low-density materials.

Additionally, the X16 is equipped to handle products up to 300mm in height at conveyor speeds of up to 60 meters per minute. Beyond contamination detection, it performs essential quality and integrity checks, such as verifying correct product placement, component count, fill level, and package condition.

Operators can maximize uptime with the X16, which features an intuitive user interface, simplified cleaning processes, and durable subsystems to reduce costly downtime. The design supports quick maintenance and cleaning routines, enabling uninterrupted production for manufacturers.

X36.2 x-ray inspection system

For manufacturers with advanced inspection requirements, the X36.2 x-ray system offers sophisticated detection capabilities.

Featuring HiGain+ detector technology and proprietary ContamPlus software, the X36.2 is optimized for detecting even the smallest foreign bodies and performing completeness and integrity checks to identify missing or broken products.

With single or multi-lane configurations and a variety of reject bin options, the system can inspect up to 1000 products per minute at conveyor speeds of up to 100 meters per minute, depending on product size.

The X36.2 is highly customizable, allowing manufacturers to adapt the system to their specific production requirements. Its versatile capabilities make it suitable for companies aiming to maintain high standards in quality control and consumer safety.

Smart industrial design enhances efficiency

Both the X16 and X36.2 benefit from substantial mechanical upgrades over previous models. The systems feature a front-opening hygienic design for easy access during cleaning, while conveyor belts can be removed without tools, minimizing maintenance time.

These design enhancements are aimed at reducing cleaning-related downtime and ensuring a seamless inspection process.

Additionally, the X6 Series includes options for tailored service contracts and a five-year generator warranty on purchases with a standard or comprehensive service agreement, providing long-term reliability and cost management for manufacturers.

Streamlined compliance with ProdX data management

The X6 Series can integrate with Mettler-Toledo’s ProdX data management software, enabling real-time monitoring, reporting, and data storage of all inspection activities. ProdX supports food safety regulatory compliance and offers proof of due diligence, which is essential for brand protection.

The data insights gained from ProdX can drive production line improvements and help manufacturers optimize productivity while safeguarding product quality.

Industry perspective

Mike Pipe, Head of Global Sales & Product Management at Mettler-Toledo Safeline X-ray, emphasized the company’s commitment to evolving with industry needs.

“With the launch of the X6 Series, we are excited to extend the capabilities of our x-ray inspection solutions—building upon the global success of the X2 Series—to larger packaging and multi-lane applications,” he said.

“The X6 Series offers enhanced control over product safety, reduces downtime, and helps manufacturers remain competitive in today’s market, all at an affordable price, making it accessible for businesses of various sizes.”

The X6 Series presents a robust solution for food manufacturers striving to prevent costly product recalls and maintain high standards of quality control.
