AUSTRALIA – Amcor, a global leader in responsible packaging solutions, has been honored at the 35th Packaging Innovation Awards (PIA) for its innovative AmPrima Plus solution.

Recognized in the Special Award category, which highlights advancements in emerging markets and frontier mono-material packaging, Amcor’s win mirrors its commitment to sustainability and performance excellence.

Revolution in coffee packaging

The award-winning AmPrima Plus solution is a recyclable, mono-PE pouch designed for coffee packaging.

It offers coffee producers up to a 68% reduction in carbon footprint compared to traditional packaging alternatives, aligning with growing consumer demand for eco-friendly products.

Recent research by Amcor reveals that sustainability claims influence 44% of coffee consumers when making purchasing decisions, with one in five avoiding products they perceive as unsustainable.

Sustainability without compromise

The AmPrima Plus pouch is designed to maintain optimal oxygen and moisture barriers, ensuring the freshness and aroma of coffee. Its compatibility with existing production lines makes it a seamless choice for coffee roasters seeking sustainable alternatives.

“Coffee roasters are actively looking for ways to be more sustainable while preserving product freshness. AmPrima Plus was the perfect solution for Nordic coffee leader Kjeldsberg, with whom we won this award,” Giorgio Dini, Marketing Manager EMEA for Coffee at Amcor, emphasized the solution’s dual benefits.

Certified by Institute cyclos-HTP for recyclability in most European countries, the pouch adheres to the Circular Economy for Flexible Packaging (CEFLEX) guidelines.

By transitioning from non-recyclable structures to mono-material solutions, brands can enhance their sustainability credentials while meeting regulatory and consumer expectations.

Amcor’s commitment to a circular economy

The PIA recognition highlights Amcor’s broader pledge to develop all its packaging to be recyclable, reusable, or compostable by 2025.

Currently, 94% of its global flexible packaging portfolio includes recycle-ready solutions, highlighting its leadership in sustainable packaging innovation.

“For many years, the Packaging Innovation Awards and Dow have inspired more sustainable packaging solutions. Our award-winning coffee pouch is a testament to Amcor’s commitment to a circular economy,” Dini added.
