USA – Aptar Closures is expanding its presence in the reusable beverage container market with the introduction of SureSnap, a pre-assembled flow control valve and retaining ring system designed for leak-free, contactless dispensing.
This innovation aims to provide an enhanced user experience for brands offering water bottles, thermoses, and children’s sip cups, helping them differentiate in an increasingly competitive market.
Addressing reusability in sustainable packaging
The “Three R’s”—reduce, reuse, and recycle—are widely recognized strategies for minimizing waste in consumer packaging.
While much of the beverage industry’s focus has been on recyclability and material reduction, Aptar’s SureSnap prioritizes reusability, an area that has long faced challenges with underperforming or unreliable closures.
Many conventional push-pull closures require users to open and close them manually, posing hygiene risks and allowing potential leakage or foreign particle ingress when left exposed.
SureSnap’s flow control valve, known as SimpliSqueeze, eliminates the need for manual operation.
The valve opens with a simple squeeze and automatically seals upon release, ensuring a clean cutoff and reducing the risk of unintentional dispensing or contamination. This contactless functionality enhances hygiene and makes the system particularly well-suited for on-the-go consumption.
Versatility and durability for multi-use applications
Designed to integrate with reusable beverage containers, SureSnap is compatible with both integrated and removable straws, offering reliable sealing even when the straw is detached.
The valve system consists of a high-quality elastomeric valve paired with a polyolefin retaining ring, available in various sizes, opening pressures, and flow rates to accommodate different product needs.
The system is constructed from food-grade materials and is free from phthalates and BPA. It is designed to withstand thousands of usage cycles without performance degradation, making it suitable for both hot and cold beverages, as well as dishwasher and microwave applications.
Streamlining production with snap-fit assembly
For manufacturers, one of SureSnap’s key advantages is its streamlined assembly process. The pre-assembled valve and retaining ring feature a “snap & go” mechanism that eliminates the need for specialized equipment and flexible part handling expertise.
Unlike traditional three-piece assemblies using silicone or rubber components, the SureSnap system simplifies production, reduces complexity, and improves quality control.
Additionally, its low minimum order quantities and short lead times make it accessible for companies seeking smaller volume applications and faster market entry.
Arthur Lenoir, Director of Global Sales and Marketing EFC at Aptar Closures, emphasized the significance of reusability in sustainable packaging solutions.
“SureSnap addresses one of the more overlooked categories in the sustainability movement: reusability. As we advance toward a more circular economy, durable, high-performance solutions are essential,” he said.
“SureSnap’s functionality, hygiene benefits, and durability make it ideal for the reusable beverage containers market, from water bottles and thermoses to children’s sip cups.”
