GERMANY – Amid growing legislative and consumer demand for environmentally friendly packaging, Sidel has introduced its latest innovation, the Hydra Ultrasonic, a high-performance bottle washer combining chemical and ultrasound technologies.

The system is set to debut at the BrauBeviale trade show in Nuremberg, Germany, from November 28–30, 2024.

This development comes at a pivotal moment when beverage manufacturers are increasingly adopting refillable returnable glass and PET bottles to reduce reliance on primary raw materials.

These reusable options not only address sustainability goals but also necessitate advanced bottle washing solutions that ensure hygienic cleaning while minimizing environmental impact.

Technological breakthroughs in bottle washing

Sidel’s Hydra Ultrasonic sets a new benchmark in bottle cleaning by integrating ultrasonic technology with traditional chemical washing. This innovation enhances the mechanical cleaning effect, reducing the washing time and temperature needed without compromising performance.

The system achieves high washing efficiency on both interior and exterior bottle surfaces, effectively removing stubborn dirt, including caustic-resistant residues.

Carrier beams also benefit from improved cleaning, further optimizing the process. These advancements result in up to a 15% increase in production rates, fewer rejected bottles, and a cleaner production environment.

Environmental and cost benefits

The Hydra Ultrasonic delivers substantial savings in energy, water, and chemicals comprising a 20% reduction in steam consumption by lowering the overall washing temperature and a 15% reduction in water usage compared to previous models.

It also includes the option for 100% electrification via a heat pump, which replaces steam with hot water, significantly reducing CO2 emissions.

Additionally, the shorter washing cycle reduces the number of components required, such as motors and chains, cutting the machine’s footprint by 20% and lowering maintenance demands.

This streamlined approach reduces production costs and improves total cost of ownership (TCO) for beverage manufacturers.

Profitable investment for beverage bottlers

Designed to meet the evolving needs of the beverage industry, the Hydra Ultrasonic minimizes production costs while aligning with sustainability targets.

Its shorter washing time and reduced heating requirements decrease overall plant energy use by up to 50%. The system also features advanced technology that lowers maintenance frequency and enhances durability.

Sidel Product Manager Andrea Solfa emphasized the dual objectives of performance and sustainability.
“Real progress means doing more with less. With Hydra Ultrasonic, we’ve improved washing capacity while reducing consumptions and the carbon footprint.”
