Tetra Pak named “Sustainable Company of the Decade” at Gulfood Manufacturing 2024

UAE – Tetra Pak, a global leader in food processing and packaging solutions, has been awarded the title “Sustainable Company of the Decade” at the Industry Excellence 2024 Awards, held during the recent Gulfood Manufacturing event in Dubai.

This accolade highlights Tetra Pak’s ongoing commitment to embedding sustainability into all aspects of its operations, from materials and processes to innovative solutions aimed at reducing the environmental impact of food packaging.

The company has championed eco-friendly approaches across its product portfolio, advancing the use of sustainable materials and enhancing recycling efforts.

Through various initiatives, Tetra Pak focuses on reducing resource consumption—particularly water, energy, and waste—within its own facilities and those of its clients.

At the core of Tetra Pak’s mission is an emphasis on a circular economy, aiming to mitigate waste and promote a closed-loop approach in food packaging and processing.

Innovations in sustainable food production showcased at Gulfood

During Gulfood Manufacturing 2024, Tetra Pak highlighted its contributions to addressing global food production challenges through innovative solutions.

Its two-storey exhibition booth, constructed entirely from recycled Tetra Pak carton packages, served as a physical demonstration of the company’s recycling and waste-reduction efforts. The booth also reflected Tetra Pak’s dedication to sustainable practices across the supply chain.

Tetra Pak introduced a range of pioneering products at the event, including the world’s first cow-free milk concept produced using precision fermentation, alongside new plant-based milk options.

These alternative protein sources, developed with cutting-edge technology, are part of Tetra Pak’s strategy to diversify food production methods in response to rising environmental and nutritional challenges.

Expanding access to safe nutrition and reducing food waste

Through its next-generation packaging solutions, Tetra Pak is enabling greater access to safe, nutritious food while simultaneously addressing food loss and waste.

By integrating these advanced packaging technologies, the company provides options that are both environmentally conscious and effective in extending food shelf life.

The company’s innovations extend beyond packaging, with Tetra Pak committed to transforming food processing practices to make them more sustainable.

By developing processes that minimize water and energy use, Tetra Pak aims to benefit both the environment and the food and beverage industry, which is increasingly under pressure to adopt greener practices.

Industry recognition and leadership in sustainability

Marcelo Piva, Tetra Pak’s Sustainability Director for the Middle East and Africa, remarked on the significance of the award.

“This award is not just a recognition of our achievements but a reflection of our commitment to sustainability at every level of our operations. We believe that by continuously innovating and collaborating with our partners, we can make major strides toward a more sustainable future of food systems, reducing our environmental footprint while ensuring safe and nutritious food for everyone, everywhere,” he said.

The company’s recognition as the “Sustainable Company of the Decade” is the latest milestone in Tetra Pak’s sustainability journey.

Known for setting benchmarks in the industry, Tetra Pak continues to prioritize sustainable solutions that align with global environmental goals and meet changing market demands.

As environmental concerns remain a focal point, the company is positioned as a key player in developing solutions that support a more sustainable food production ecosystem.
