Tetra Pak enhances ice cream production with advanced ingredient dosing technology

SWITZERLAND – Tetra Pak has introduced the Tetra Pak Ingredient Doser 4000 A3, a next-generation solution designed to improve the precision of ingredient dosing while optimizing ice cream production efficiency.

This advancement comes as the gourmet ice cream sector is projected to grow by US$13.96 billion at an 18.32% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) from 2023 to 2028, highlighting the increasing demand for premium and innovative products.

The Tetra Pak Ingredient Doser 4000 A3 is engineered to ensure even distribution of ingredients, allowing manufacturers to maintain consistency in every scoop.

The system is capable of handling a wide range of inclusions, from small dry ingredients to larger, stickier elements measuring up to 32mm in diameter.

Elsebeth Baungaard Andersen, Portfolio Manager for Ice Cream at Tetra Pak, noted that the company remains focused on innovation to help manufacturers stay competitive in a rapidly changing market.

“The Tetra Pak Ingredient Doser 4000 A3 makes it easy to experiment with unique textures and standout ingredients, giving brands an edge in a market where consumers increasingly crave bold, premium flavors accompanied by exciting, delicious inclusions — and this doser equips our customers to deliver that indulgent experience, bite after bite,” she said.

By reaching the dosing set point three times faster than previous models—cutting down from 45 to 15 seconds—the doser reduces ingredient waste by 67%, contributing to cost savings and improved efficiency.

Energy efficiency and hygienic design

Designed to meet 3-A sanitary standards, the Ingredient Doser 4000 A3 incorporates hygienic food equipment design practices.

It operates with a motor that consumes 11% less energy compared to the IE3 regulatory standard, enhancing overall sustainability.

Additionally, the direct drive of the auger and agitator allows manufacturers to adjust dosing capacity without requiring mechanical changeovers, thereby reducing downtime and operational costs.

While specifically developed for ice cream production, the versatility of the Tetra Pak Ingredient Doser 4000 A3 extends to other food products such as peanut butter, cream cheese, and mayonnaise.

This flexibility provides manufacturers with an opportunity to explore additional product lines while maintaining production efficiency.

Digitalization in ingredient dosing

The new doser integrates a series of sensors and automated algorithmic responses to ensure peak performance, reducing downtime and wear while maintaining ingredient distribution consistency.

Real-time production insights allow manufacturers to monitor and optimize their production lines from the outset. Enhanced operator interfaces and user-friendly design elements facilitate ease of use, cleaning, and maintenance.
