Premier Foods Limited recognized as Kenya’s Most Preferred Food Manufacturing Company

KENYA – Premier Foods Limited (PFL), the manufacturer behind the renowned Peptang, PEP, and Orchid Valley brands, has been named Kenya’s Most Preferred Food Manufacturing Company at the Consumer Choice Awards 2025.

The recognition, based on consumer trust and preference, highlights PFL’s continued commitment to high-quality food production.

Representing the company at the awards ceremony was Head of Commercial Medline Ndungu, accompanied by a team including CHRP-K Maureen Guddah, Brenda Ochenja, Paul A., and Catherine Samo.

The team accepted the award on behalf of PFL, acknowledging the role of loyal consumers and dedicated employees in securing this achievement.

The Consumer Choice Awards Kenya, a subdivision of Consumer Choice Awards Africa, recognizes excellence in businesses, companies, and individuals contributing to consumer satisfaction.

Established in 2019 as Consumer Choice Awards Tanzania, the initiative has since expanded across Africa.

This year’s Kenyan edition took place on March 29, 2025, at the Argyle Grand Hotel, offering a platform for local businesses to showcase industry excellence.

Brookside Dairy was also recognized for its high-quality dairy products. Meanwhile, Kenya Orchards was celebrated for its diverse range of processed fruits and vegetables.

Winners at the national level now stand a chance to compete regionally at the Consumer Choice Awards Africa, which aims to assess market performance and promote networking opportunities across the continent.

Legacy of quality and food safety

With a presence in Kenyan households for nearly 85 years, Premier Foods Limited has built a reputation for quality and innovation.

The company was the first in Kenya to be awarded an ISO 22000:2005 certification by Bureau Veritas Certification for its compliance with international food safety standards. This commitment to quality has been further reinforced with an upgrade to ISO 22000:2018, ensuring continuous improvement in food safety management systems.

PFL’s product portfolio spans over 50 items, including sauces, jams, juices, spreads, and canned food products. These are marketed under the Peptang, PEP, and Orchid Valley brands and are distributed across domestic, regional, and international markets.

Industry recognition and accolades

Premier Foods Limited has garnered multiple awards for product excellence over the years. Notably, the company’s Pili-Pili brand secured top positions in the Fiery Food Challenge, one of the most prestigious competitions in the spicy food industry.

At Zest Fest 2005, PFL’s Pili-Pili Hot and Sweet Sauce clinched first prize in the international category, while the Pili-Pili Hot Sauce earned second place. The following year, the Pili-Pili Garlic Hot Sauce secured third place in the same competition.

Additional recognitions include multiple marketing and label design awards and a People’s Choice Award at the Houston Sauce Competition.
