KOM Group named best agroprocessing company in East Africa at 2025 African Excellence Awards

TANZANIA – KOM Group of Companies, a Tanzania-based agroprocessing and industrial products manufacturer, has been awarded Best Agroprocessing Company in East Africa at the 2025 African Excellence Awards, hosted by MEA Markets

This marks the second consecutive year the company has received the accolade, which is part of a broader initiative to highlight industry performance across the African continent.

“This acknowledgment reflects our commitment to providing quality products, exceptional customer service, fostering innovation, and ensuring operational efficiency,” remarked  Dr. Jesca Nkwabi,  CEO, KOM Group of Companies, on her LinkedIn.

“We extend our heartfelt thanks to our dedicated team for their continued support, and our valued customers for choosing our products. This recognition inspires us to strive for even greater heights as we work to deliver the best to our customers”

Founded in 2002, KOM Group operates a diverse business portfolio that includes the production of edible oils derived from cottonseed and sunflower, as well as animal feed manufacturing.

Beyond its agroprocessing division, the company also owns and manages a retail supermarket, bakery, and restaurant, making it one of the more integrated agribusiness firms in the Tanzanian market.

The African Excellence Awards, now in their ninth year, are designed to recognize companies across sectors that demonstrate consistent growth, adaptability, and impact across African markets.

Industries represented in the awards include mining, energy, manufacturing, agriculture, finance, healthcare, and the creative economy. According to MEA Markets, nominees are evaluated based on performance metrics such as innovation, operational efficiency, product quality, and customer engagement.

KOM’s win places it among a short list of agroprocessing firms operating at scale across East Africa. While financial disclosures were not made public, agroprocessing firms of similar size in the region often generate annual revenues in the range of US$10 million to US$25 million.

The 2025 edition of the awards was judged by an independent panel, comprising regional business analysts and sector experts. Finalists were selected following a multi-stage nomination and evaluation process, which included performance benchmarking and stakeholder interviews.

Tanzania’s agroprocessing sector has seen increased investor interest in recent years, driven by domestic demand for edible oil and animal feed, as well as efforts by the government to reduce reliance on imports.

KOM’s presence in both upstream production and downstream retail places it in a favourable position amid ongoing shifts in food production and distribution systems across East Africa.

The African Excellence Awards aim to draw attention to businesses contributing to sustainable economic activity and employment across the continent.

Organised annually, the awards bring together companies with operations in more than 30 African countries, and attract nominations from both private and public enterprises.

Additional information on award categories and the full list of winners is available on the official MEA Markets website.
