Foodpreneurs Hub supports African food startups with new funding program

AFRICA – Foodpreneurs Hub recently launched its flagship Food Business Funding Program, designed to bridge the gap between food science and business while equipping entrepreneurs with essential skills in entrepreneurship, finance, marketing, and supply chain management.

With a focus on empowering early-stage and scaling food businesses in sub-Saharan Africa, this program addresses critical challenges like access to funding and market entry.

“Our goal is to foster innovation in the food ecosystem by providing tools, resources, and networks to entrepreneurs,” shared Omotola Logunleko, Programs Manager at Foodpreneurs Hub.

Program overview and objectives

The first cohort features 34 participants, 50% of whom are in the early stages of their food businesses. Participants receive extensive support, including mentoring, one-on-one consultations with subject matter experts, masterclasses, and assistance with grant applications over a six-week period.

Modules such as Market Analysis, Sources of Funding, and Pitch Deck Development provide practical tools for business growth. Classes combine pre-recorded lectures with interactive weekend sessions for a well-rounded learning experience.

Pitching session and networking opportunities

The program will culminate in a pitching session on December 7th, where the Food Business Funding Program participants will present their innovative food business ideas. They will compete for a US$500 cash prize and other funding opportunities.

Each participant will have five minutes to pitch and receive feedback from a panel of industry experts serving as judges. Additionally, there will be networking opportunities with investors, mentors, and peers.

Ongoing support and future prospects

With Cohort 2 set to begin in January 2025, Foodpreneurs Hub continues its mission of supporting entrepreneurs beyond graduation.

“We are committed to their long-term success, offering ongoing opportunities and guidance until they fully scale,” Omotola added.

Founders and mission

Foodpreneurs Hub was founded in 2023 by Olushola Oladejo and Yosola Oke with the mission of empowering and supporting food innovators across Africa. The company aims to democratize food processing, enhance food security, and promote sustainability across the continent.
