Diageo appoints Kavita Hans as General Manager for West, Central Africa

AFRICA – Diageo has announced the appointment of Kavita Hans as the new General Manager for West and Central Africa, including Diageo Nigeria Limited (DNL).

Her tenure begins on July 1, 2024, marking a leadership transition aimed at reinforcing the company’s presence in one of its most dynamic markets.

Hans, who has over two decades of international commercial experience, has held key roles in multinational corporations, including Mars, Heineken, and Diageo.

Her career spans multiple continents, including Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, providing her with a broad understanding of market complexities and strategic growth initiatives.

Before her new role, Hans served as General Manager for the Philippines and as Commercial Director for Ireland’s Off-Trade Revenue and Category Growth.

Her leadership in these positions contributed to market share expansion and strengthened customer partnerships.

Additionally, during her tenure in the Philippines, she served as Vice President for European Chambers and chaired the Alcohol Beverages Alliance Philippines, advocating for policies on taxation and responsible alcohol consumption.

Strengthening Diageo’s position in Africa

Nigeria remains a key market within Diageo’s West and Central Africa operations. With a major hub in Lagos, the country plays a crucial role in the company’s long-term strategy for growth in the spirits industry.

Hans’s appointment is expected to enhance Diageo’s operations by fostering partnerships and advancing innovation within the sector.

This leadership shift comes shortly after Diageo named Hina Nagarajan as the new President of Diageo Africa, effective April 1, 2025.

Nagarajan, formerly Managing Director and CEO of Diageo India, recently joined the company’s Global Executive Committee. She will succeed Dayalan Nayager, who has been appointed President of Diageo Europe.

Having previously served as Managing Director of Africa Emerging Markets, Nagarajan brings a wealth of experience to her new role, further strengthening Diageo’s strategic focus on the continent.

Expanding regional operations

In addition to Hans’s appointment, Diageo has named Shobhit Jindal as General Manager for Celebr-8 Lyfe, a subsidiary focused on lifestyle beverage solutions.

Jindal will oversee operations and lead efforts to establish the brand’s presence in the region. His appointment aligns with Diageo’s objective of diversifying its portfolio and expanding its reach in emerging markets.
